I did, and drove her back to her place – we again had to pause so she could open the door and puke on the sidewalk with me holding her jeans so she wouldn’t slide out of the car – only to find her ex-common-law hubby at home babysitting their two kids – awkward!

We always enjoyed breakfast together at home: bowls of granola with yoghurt and fruit, nice coffees, lazing around.

One morning, after I had started to feel slightly more comfortable at his place and not just a guest, I was preparing the breakfast. Jordan brought up a topic that required a little grace and tact:

“Hey R, so you know, I’ve really enjoyed you spending all this time over at my place. I’m having a great time and I’m glad you’re here. But, I’ve noticed that I’ve been going through breakfast food a little faster than I used to. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind contributing to the breakfast fund, as coffee, bananas, etc can really add up, you know?”

I was shocked. Certainly I had “paid” for breakfast hours earlier.

I replied: “Well, can you help me pay for the cost of birth control pills?”

He replied: “That’s totally different.”

He was out of cream, so I went for a walk and bought some. Needless to say, that relationship didn’t last.
